With the global pandemic in full swing and countries imposing lockdowns to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, a lot of travel plans this year have been hit. What started as a promising year has now morphed into a situation of total and utter unpredictability. When will this come to an end? And when it does, will it be safe to travel? Several destinations have been rendered incapable of hosting tourists due to an ungainly amount of international exposure resulting in case increases. Yet, destinations like Nepal where the virus spread has been slow due to regulated amounts of global exposure and less crowding may emerge higher on the list of viable tourist spots post Covid-19.
Travel, for many of us, has been an integral part of our life. Pre-COVID-19, travel was often a luxury taken for granted. However, now, it is a pleasure one yearns for. Despite the longings one has for this indulgence, choosing a safe and suitable destination will be of utmost importance and a task which requires the exercise of a great deal of caution.
What works in Nepal’s favor is its image of being a hub for adventure enthusiasts. Its focus on outdoor activities like trekking, hiking and mountain climbing reinforces the fact that sports like the aforementioned, help in contributing to an improved immune system. Especially now that health and well-being are the top priorities in everyone’s life, engaging in exercise-related pursuits have taken on new meaning. In Nepal, there are many trail sites open for independent travel like the Poon Hill and Mohare Hill trek routes. With social distancing in place and the fresh air of the mountains, reduction in stress levels and increase in fitness levels are guaranteed.
Furthermore, a distinct quality about Nepal is its emphasis on spirituality. Due to the current lockdowns, a number of people face problems maintaining their mental health. A therapeutic solution would be journeying to a tranquil location, devoid of hassles and busy routines. With meditative retreats, courses and religious centers dedicated to exploring one’s faith, Nepal assures the presence of such a relaxed and serene environment that is integral to bettering one’s mental health. Additionally, the peaceful Himalayan landscape provides an excellent opportunity for complete physical and mental rejuvenation. The captivating view of the horizon and sun rays peeking over the mountains is enough to render you speechless and provide you with all the relaxation you crave. In fact, the best views are from the homestays across the Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit Range treks.
At this hour, each individual needs to be persistently aware of the type of lifestyle they are leading, their dietary regimen, and social habits. Often, due to negligence and ignorance of sanitary regulations, the containment of the virus becomes a tedious task. This has been observed in several countries wherein celebrations of festivals and events have taken precedence with blatant disregard for social distancing. The reason for this is due to the obliviousness of the power of this virus. Nevertheless, if rules are in place and are adhered to appropriately, the process of easing intercontinental and interborder restrictions can hasten. The duration of this situation remains unknown, yet it is promising to know that once it does, there are still places we can journey to that promote a hygienic and more importantly an enjoyable atmosphere.
