This Annapurna Royal trekking is named after Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales who walked this route in the 1980s. The trail passes through stunning scenery giving trekkers incredible views of the Annapurna mountain range, Machhapuchhre and the Pokhara valley. It weaves past rice terraces and through tiny local villages, giving you a glimpse into the lives of the people living in this area. The Royal Trek has not been particularly commercialised meaning you get to experience the rich culture of the local Gurung people without being interrupted by large groups of tourists.
Starting from the Kalikasthan ridge and ending at Begnas Lake. The trail follows a path through the Annapurna foothills, passing through Shyaklung, a Gurung village, Chisonani and across the ridge that separates Begnas and Rupa lake. Despite being ‘off the beaten track’, the route is well maintained and wide and easygoing. It is suitable for most people, even the elderly, younger children and beginners! The highest altitude reached is 2000m, and therefore requires no acclimatization and minimal technical knowledge. The Royal Trek is an excellent option for those looking for a short, easy trek that is not crowded with tourists. The Annapurna Royal Trek is one of Nepal's most stunning trekking experiences. It is a challenging and rewarding journey through some of the most spectacular landscape in the world. The trek begins in the central Annapurna region, passing through lush green valleys, glistening rivers and remote villages. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to witness stunning mountain views, local cultures, picturesque waterfalls and ancient Hindu temples. As you make your way up the trail, you will be able to enjoy the majestic views of several of the world’s highest peaks, including Annapurna I, II, and III. This trek is suitable for both novice and experienced trekkers and offers an amazing journey through some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth.
Today the adventure begins! After an hour’s drive from Kalikasthan, we will arrive in Bijayapur which is the start of today’s trek. The end destination for the day is Kalikasthan and this will take 4 to 5 hours. The trail is relatively easy. As soon as we cross the river, the trail ascends towards Kalikasthan. Normally, lunch is served during the climb. When we reach Kalikasthan you will be awarded with a fantastic view of Begnas lake, Pokhara and the Annapurna Himalayas.
Syaklung is a beautiful Gurung village located at an altitude of 1730 m. The walk is stunning as it takes you along the top of the hilly ridge, from Thulakhet to Mathithana. You continue to walk along the ridge until you reach Lipeyani Village. After Lipeyani village, you will take a short ascent and finally reach the final destination of the day. Today you will explore local villages, and a rhododendron forest and continue to be surrounded by stunning Himalayan views. It truly will be a beautiful day.
Whilst the trail today is not particularly difficult, it will be very interesting! This is due to the changing nature of the trail which ascends and descends. At first, you will descend steeply through a village before reaching a resting place, built by local villagers for passing hikers and as a place for social gatherings. These are famous and are an important part of Nepali culture called Chautari. As soon as you reach the junction with a police station, you take the left trail and begin an ascent to Chisopani, the end destination for the day. The right trail would take you to the Marshayangdi river. After reaching Chisapani, you are free to stroll around this beautiful village and enjoy the local culture.
Your final day of trekking is an exciting one, as you are going to reach Begnas lake! To start, you will cross the stream that feeds the Rupa Tal and then ascend the ridge separating Rupa and Begnas Lake. This route will take you past rice fields and through local villages. We will soon reach our final destination, the beautiful Begnas Tal. Here, we will have lunch and you will have some free time to explore the nearby town. This is also where you say your final goodbye to your fantastic trekking team!
