Originally called Thulo Kharka, Australian camp is was very less known to the trekkers till late 80s. In the meantime, the trekkers from Austria have found this Pasture, very close to Pothana and started enjoying camping. So, it was called the Austrian camp and later the locals started calling it Australian camp and today it is one the famous viewpoint closer to Pokhara.
Australian camp is one of the most recommended destinations for the families looking for easy hikes with the magnificent view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himal range. In combination with Dhampus and Sarangkot village, it offers the best view of the Himalayas during the sunrise.
A steeper stone trail starts from Kande and takes around 2 hours to reach Australian camp, from where a 360 Degree Mountain Panorama of Annapurna South 7219m, Hiunchuli 6440 m, Macchapucchre 6993 m and other mountain ranges in the west.
The trek is truly cultural but is full of natural beauty. The trail passes through the beautiful Gurung villages and you walk with the locals. Enjoy one of the most easiest and beautiful trek around Pokhara.
Today your guide will meet you at the hotel after breakfast and drive from Pokhara city to Phedi an hour scenic drive and walk along the banks of the Modi Khola river. After 1 and half hour of a hike through the stairs and uphill flatland, you will reach Dhampus where you will have lunch with the spectacular views of the mountains. After a good rest, you will then ascend through the forest on a trail which is often made up of stone steps on the steeper sections and reach to Australian Camp.
Since the mountain lodges have basic facilities with not very comfortable mattress It is always recommended to carry a sleeping bag with you. Total trekking time 4 to 5 hours.
Australian Camp to Sarangkot
After the warm breakfast today you will trek to Sarangkot which offers you the excellent opportunity to capture the beautiful scenery. The trail following the bit easy path along hill ridge to the dense settlement with mixed ethnic groups Sarangkot trek offer you spectacular mountain scenery (Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchre, Nilgiri, Lamjung etc.) and enchanting view of Pokhara valley and Phewa lake. Enjoy the sunset view from Sarangkot and overnight. Total trekking hours 6 to 7 hours through the steps and rugged terrain with increment in the elevation.
Wake up in the dawn for the amazing and most spectacular sunrise over the mountains from Sarangkot. Upon having your breakfast you will trek to Pokhara city and complete the trekking.
