Lower Dolpo - Shey Phoksundo Lake
Min Age : 18

Trekking in the Lower Dolpo has its own charm. It is located in the remote and isolated western religion of Nepal offering a true experience of Nepalese life. It is home to the largest national park in Nepal, Phoksundo Lake National Park which boasts Nepal’s deepest lake. Rich in wildlife, flora and fauna we may even see a Snow Leopard. The snow leopard is endangered so we try to protect this area the best we can to promote a viable area for positive wild reproduction. We do need a special permit for travelling to this region which your guide will take care of. Approximately only 5000 people live in this area. Their hospitality is second to none so embrace this opportunity to immerse yourself in culture.

As soon as you enter the Shey Phoksundo National park, you will be trekking alongside the heavenly Shey Phoksundo. Lower Dolpo is a rain shadow area, so you will have an experience of trekking in mountain desert. Shey Phoksundo has remained as the salt trading route to Tibet and the Yak Caravans are peculiar here for the same trade. Also get blessed with the pristine pure nature of this area and the diversity of flora and fauna.

Tour Details

Dolpo Region lies in western Nepal beyond the Himalayan valleys. It is very remote and still unexplored. The region is far from the mass tourism activities, so it still remains a place to experience authentic cultures and traditions. The Lower Dolpo region practices the PRE Buddhist Bon-po religion which is worth experiencing. The region is quite spiritual and also full of natural adventures. In fact, you explore those ancient villages, and age-old trade routes including high passes, beautiful lakes, the oldest monasteries, and also a wide variety of wildlife.

Surrounded with high mountains and Dhaulagiri Massif, Lower Dolpo is one of the most strenuous trekking in Nepal. Those with previous trekking experience and those willing to experience the adventure in isolated regions can take part in this Grade D trekking adventure. The adventurers are expected to trek in the altitude between 4000m to 5550m. You will pass by the glaciers and the trekking requires continuous ascents and descents.

As trekking is strenuous, we recommend practicing a regular workout and exercise routine before you start this adventure. This will certainly strengthen your physical capacity and boost up your mental confidence. Get ready for some real adventure and explore those hidden natural jewels of Nepal in person. Anyone with courage and self-dedication to take on the challenge can complete this trekking in the ancient trade route to Tibet in western Nepal.
