The classic trek around the Manaslu – the eighth highest mountain in the world – is the perfect trek for those looking for an alternative to Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit treks. The challenging trek passes through a geographically spectacular and culturally fascinating area. This tour invites you to engulf yourself in the natural wonders and take back everlasting memories of the magnificent Himalayas.
The Manaslu Trek – also called Manaslu Circuit – offers stunning close up views of the spirit mountain Manaslu, enchanting Hindu and Tibetan villages and a challenging high pass, the Larke Pass at 5160m. As you start low, at around 700 m, the landscapes vary incredibly, ranging from green countryside and lush forests to spectacular high altitude landscapes with huge glaciers. Many tea houses and lodges along the Manaslu trekking route allow you to rest and recharge. Visit Nepal, indulge in nature and immerse deep into the culture.
Welcome to Kathmandu! After your arrival at the airport, our representative will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in the city center. On your first day, you can explore the vibrant streets and the winding allies while discovering numerous restaurants, cafes and stores in the shopping area Thamel. The evening is yours to settle down after your long journey.
Swayambhunath or Monkey Temple sits atop a hill, overlooking most parts of the valley. It is not only home to troops of monkeys but also the perfect example for the religious harmony between Hinduism and Buddhism in Nepal, since large numbers of Buddhists and Hindus alike visit Swayambhunath throughout the day. 365 stone steps lead up to Nepal’s oldest stupa, from where you will have magnificent panoramic views over the city. The site itself has stood as a hallmark of faith and harmony for centuries. The glory of the Kathmandu Valley is said to have started from this point.
After breakfast be ready for a long but exciting drive to Sotikhola which takes about 8-9 hours in a private vehicle. This scenic drive along the river offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountainous scenery. The road up until Dhading Besi is well paved, however, be ready for a bumpy ride onwards to Arughat. Many trekkers start their Manaslu trek from Arughat but you will be driven further to Sotikhola. The long drive may have taken a toll on your body so rest well tonight at the tea house in Sotikhola
From Sotikhola it takes 5 to 6 hours to reach Machha Khola. Today you will trek mainly through beautiful Sal tree forests (Shorea robusta). The steep uphill trail passes through the villages Armala, Lapubesi and Nauli khola where you can enjoy a tropical waterfall. The path along a sandy river bed is leading to a wire suspension bridge between a narrow crossing. Afterwards you will reach Machha Khola – also called the Fish river.
Today you will trek along the foothills of the Himalayas from Machha Khola to Jagat. The trail passes through villages, forests and is embellished with blooming flowers, especially if you trek during spring season. Upon arriving in Jagat, you have entered the Manaslu conservation area.
A little ahead from Jagat, you will reach Sirdibas and cross a suspension bridge over the Budi Gandaki River. Upon reaching the Gurung village Philim, you can have wonderful glimpses of the Sringi Mountain. Heading from Philim, you ascend towards Ekle Bhatti. After crossing another suspension bridge you arrive in Nyak. The trail then descends to Deng with a pleasant walk through a bamboo forest.
Today you trek for about 6-7 hours crossing the Budhi Gandki River climbing up to Ranagaon 1900 meters. Crossing a couple of suspension bridges and a local grinding machine which is powered by the water, you will reach Bhi and the Siringi valley. Passing the mani walls, you will be greeted by chirping birds and shy monkeys on your way until you finally reach Namrung. If you happen to trek during spring make sure to try the sour rhododendron flowers.
Today you will experience Tibetan culture and the simple lifestyle of the local people throughout the trail until you reach Samagaon. Situated at approximately 3500 meters this small settlement consists of thatched houses with slate roofs. Perched in the cliff the houses usually have a yard with a place for wood and mani stones, influenced by the Tibetan culture. Sagamaon is towered by Manaslu and Gorkha Himal, above others, which offer spectacular views
You will spend the day at Samagaon for rest and acclimatization. If you are not too tired, we recommend hiking up to Pungyen Gompa, a monastery with great views of the surrounding glaciers, or you can hike up to the Manaslu Base Camp as well
Today’s trek will lead you up to 3650 meters after trekking around 5 hours. You will pass through Khermo Kharka and Lela Kharka walking along the Budhigandaki river until you reach Samdo. From Samagaon you will pass mani walls and birch and juniper forests. You will reach Samdo in the mid afternoon which allows you to explore the surrounding area including a nearby Tibetan village.
Today is another day for proper acclimatization. We highly recommend hiking up the valley, directly at the back of Samdo. This hike will take you to one of the trade passes to Tibet, where you will have excellent views of the Manaslu along with other Himalayan ranges including Simrang, Hiunchuli, Ngadi, Larkye Peak, Cheo and possibly Kang Guru behind the pass. You may also just want to relax in the village and prepare for the next day.
Today you trek up to 4460 meters, climbing up 600 meters in a single day. Since you are now acclimatized this trek should not be too hard. The trail will passes through Larke Bazar, a market in an abandoned village. Watch your step as you will trek on many rocky trails. Rest and relax in Dharmashala
This is probably the best but also hardest day of your trek as you will pass through the Larkya pass at 5213 meters. From the Glaciers you will have stunning views of the Larkya peak and Cho Danda. The further you go the steeper the trail becomes. When you reach the final section of the pass you will reach the Bhimtang glacier. All the exhaustion of the trek will be rewarded with astonishing views of the Annapurna II, Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal and Kangguru
A great drop in altitude of almost 1800 meters makes today’s trek less exhausting. You will pass the village of Tilije and further down to Dharapani, which is also part of the Annapurna circuit trekking route.
Today is the final day of the Manaslu trek. You will trek up to Syange, descending though the rhododendron forests and crossing the Marshyangdi river.

Today is the day to say Goodbye to Nepal. You will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home. We hope you will reminisce in with sweet memories of Nepal, its mountains, nature, peoples and their smile.
