Pokhara - Sikles Trek

From stunning mountain views to friendly and fascinating local communities and cultures, the Sikles village trek is a great adventure! Perfect for those wanting to get a taste of what trekking is like in Nepal, the Sikles trail is short but packs in a great deal. During your journey, you will encounter rare bird species, a diverse natural landscape and charming villages. Many of these settlements are home to the Gurung people, who have managed to maintain their traditional lifestyle. You will get to experience this way of life during your stay in Sikles village. Here, you will be hosted by a local family who will feed you local dishes and teach you local customs, it truly is a fantastic immersive experience.

Tour Details

The landscape here is unique and varied. You will wander through terraced rice fields, dense rhododendron forests and high alpine meadows that are tucked below the impressive Annapurna peaks, sometimes all in one day! The views here are special, often panoramic, always enchanting. You will get up close to some of Nepal’s most famous mountains and mountain ranges including, Annapurna, Mt Fishtail and Lamjung Himal. 

This Sikles Village Trek is classified as easy to moderate. No technical knowledge is required. The altitude is relatively, so there is a limited chance of altitude sickness. For beginners, this trek may be a bit of a challenge as the terrain can be a little tricky but it is definitely doable. We would recommend you to undertake a fitness regime prior to starting this trek as this will help you with your stamina and preparedness.

What to Expect

You are going to trek through the villages and experience the local life. As a camping trek, you will enjoy the trekking in the form of its wilderness. The Gurung villages and the well arranged array of rice terraces are wonderful. Sikles joins the famous Royal Trek once trekked by the Prince Charles from England. Day 01Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal

Welcome to Nepal! We hope you are ready to start your adventure with us. You will be met at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) upon arrival, by a Himalayan Circuit representative and will then be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu for the night. Here you can rest up and prepare for the start of your exciting adventure!

Day 02Kathmandu valley sightseeing

On your first day in Nepal you will be exploring Kathmandu. With 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites, there is a lot to see! On this tour you will visit; the Boudhanath Stupa. Erected in the 14th century, the Stupa is a sacred destination for Buddhists. The monument is used for meditation, worship and for offerings and is a focal point of the area. To represent the all-knowing nature of the Buddha, the tower’s base is adorned with decorative eyes pointing in all cardinal directions, past visitors have said that it feels as if the tower is watching you! The Stupa is incredibly beautiful and its surroundings peaceful, it’s hard not to feel relaxed in its presence.

Next up is Pashupatinath. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is the largest temple complex in Nepal. Pashupatinath is a living cultural heritage site, one of only few in the world. It is full of life and energy and here you can observe the active participation of people in rituals that are spread throughout the day. There is alot to explore in Pashupatinath including 492 temples, but keep in mind that only Hindus are allowed through the gates of the main temple.

You will have some free time in the afternoon, you can use this time to explore the local area or to rest up and prepare for your first day of trekking!

Day 03Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara then Drive to Milan Chowk to Kharpani

Today our journey begins! After a quick flight to Pokhara, we will head to our starting point, Milanchowk. After wandering through this lakeside settlement, we begin to leave civilization behind and venture out into the lush landscape. Our ending point for today is Kharpani, which is famed for its natural hot springs, visitors are encouraged to take a dip as the spring is said to contain medicinal properties that are good for the skin. The route to the springs will take us along the banks of, and eventually over the river Seti, through small settlements and into a conservation area within the Annapurna mountain range before finally reaching Kharpani.

Day 04Trek to Ghale Gaon

We hope you feel well rested after your first night on the trail, today we are heading to the village of Ghale Gaon! This part of the trek includes fantastic views of Boudha Himal, Himalchuli and Manaslu in the east, Mt. Fishtail to the west and Lamjung Himal and Annapurna in the north. Your night stay this evening will be with a host family, the village of Ghale Gaon is well-known for its homestays, with tourists from all over the world coming here and staying with the incredibly welcoming locals. The majority of the villages’ inhabitants are of the Gurung ethnic group, this is the group that the famous Gurkha Warriors belong to, so you are sure to hear some interesting stories during your time with them!

Day 05Trek to Sikles

Today’s trail is diverse, comprising of an easy stretch beside a river bank, a gentle incline and a steep ascent. You will pass through various small villages until you reach Sikles. The village of Sikles is one of the oldest and largest Gurung settlements in the area, many of its residents actually served in the British and Indian armies! You are sure to enjoy your evening, try and soak up as much of the local culture as you can.

Day 06Exploring Sikles

Rest/free day today. You can explore Sikles at your own pace, observing the traditional Gurung way of life. Learn about their traditional crafts, including cloth weaving and even take a peek inside a local flour mill! If you want to experience some nature, head to the nearby Rhododendron forests and become encapsulated by the colourful blooms. 

Day 07Trek to Chasu

As you head to your next destination, Chasu, you pass through more of the diverse Annapurna landscape. You will pass through quite a few villages today and these are interspersed with stunning hillside and valley views. The route is mainly a descent. On your trip you will pass by a myriad of local flora and fauna, local people and even fellow trekkers. As you reach Chasu in the afternoon, you will notice a temperature difference as well as a change in the surrounding vegetation.

Day 08Trek to Kalikasthan

We are reaching the final stretch of your journey, on your penultimate day with us we are making the ascent to Kalikasthan. The village sits high in the mountains and offers incredible views over the Pokhara valley and formidable mountain ranges, it is an enchanting place to camp for the night! 

Day 09Back to Town, Pokhara

This is the final day of actual trekking upon reaching the end of the trail you will be transported back to Pokhara city. Before you say your goodbyes to this Sikles trail, you have one more exciting day of walking! The trail begins with a steep descent to Rudi stream, which we will cross and then follow for a bit. After this, we will climb allowing you to get a final glimpse of the Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges. Make sure you take many pictures, you won’t want to forget these views.

Day 10City tour around Pokhara

Time to explore Pokhara. Complete with a seemingly endless list of things to do and see, ample great restaurants and a laid-back charm, Pokhara is one of Nepal’s most popular destinations. Stretched along the Phewa lake, you will be blown away by the city’s surroundings, take a boat trip on Phewa’s placid waters to enjoy these views from a different perspective. Or perhaps you can take a trip out of Pokhara itself to visit some incredible natural sites including the Mahendra Cave, a large limestone cave famous for its stalactites and stalagmites and Patale Chhango (Devil’s Fall) an incredibly waterfall that is a fabulous photo spot. Pokhara also boasts several interesting cultural sites, such as the World Peace Pagoda which is situated on the southern edge of Phewa lake its great viewpoint giving you another fantastic view over the Annapurna mountains. You simply won’t be bored during your time in Pokhara!

Day 11Drive back to Kathmandu

On your penultimate day with us, we will be heading back to Kathmandu. Whether you make the journey by car or air you are definitely in for a treat. The views from above or from the road are stunning, mountains, rice terraces and endless green fields are all visible.

Day 12Departure Day!

Departure day! A transfer will take you to the airport. Hopefully we will see you again soon.
