Helen Keller once said, “Life is either a great adventure or nothing”. Adventure by its very nature is an unusual, exciting and risk taking activity. It is something where participants can put themselves in a position where they are confronted by challenges and gain something or learn something meaningful from those experiences. Adventure is what every traveler craves these days. Tourism of this nature includes any type of activity that involves adventure and thrills while traveling.

It was mountaineering that opened Nepal to the outside world after the country first opened its doors to climbers in 1949. The appeal of mountaineering grew as many  wanted to scale various Himalayan heights after Sir Ed. Hillary and Tenzing Norgay set their first ever foot on the summit of Mt. Everest in May 1953. Eight of the world’s ten highest peaks are located in Nepal, including Mt. Everest, the highest peak on the planet. There is no surprise that the adventure and challenge that mountaineering brings are still prevalent and continue to draw many foreign visitors year after year.

Nepal is also known as a trekker’s paradise because it features spectacular routes from various geographical regions, ranging from high altitude to easy walking routes. Moreover, trekking in Nepal offers an opportunity to experience Nepal’s ethnic diversity as one passes through picturesque and charming villages in the Everest, Langtang and Annapurna regions.

As a land of numerous world class rivers arising from the melting snow on the Himalayan Terrain, Nepal offers fun and exciting river rafting experiences. Rivers such as the Trishuli, Bhotekoshi, SunKoshi, Marshyangdi, and Karnali offer adventure sports like rafting and kayaking where you can also choose to camp on the riverside while enjoying the culture and natural beauty.

A bungee jump is the ultimate thrill in Nepal, and you can experience it at three different spots, Last Resort, Kushma Bungee Jump, and High Ground Bungee Jump. With a height of 228 meters, Kushma has Nepal’s highest bungee jump and the second highest in the world.

Paragliding is another adventure activity that allows you to fly like a bird in the sky and discover the wonders of nature as you glide over monasteries, temples, lakes, and the jungle along with a spectacular aerial view of the Himalayas.

Nepal has been a popular mountain biking destination in the world in recent years as it offers incredible scenic views of the sky-dominating peaks, terraces, valleys and hills while racing down the dirt roads.
