Island Peak is located in the Everest Region Khumbu area which offers an impressive and highly glaciated face that emerges from the Lhotse Glacier. Island peak at an elevation of 6189m is actually an extension of Lhotse Shar located between the Lhotse and Imja Glaciers, so the Island peak is also called as Imja-tse in local language. Island Peak Climbing also offers spectacular scenery of the Khumbu region and the Chhukung valley. From the highest point of the peak you can delight yourself with the huge south face of Lhotse and the wonderful view of Ama Dablam Peak.
For Island peak climbing ,We begin our climbing expedition with a flight to Lukla from Kathmandu that takes about 40 Minutes. We accompany the Dudh Koshi river valley and stay one day in the Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar and enjoy the local market. Next day our journey stops at Thyangboche which from here we can see the best view of Mount Everest. Thyangboche offers one of the finest scenery of Everest as well as many other peaks like Cho Oyu and many different mountains and ancient Thyangboche Monastery. From Dingboche we begin the arrangement for our Island Peak Climbing expedition. Despite the fact that we can ascend the peak in a single day, however from our earlier experience we spend one night at the base camp for adjustment and finally attempt the Island summit from the Base Camp. Necessary peak climbing permit from Nepal mountaineering association (NMA) is needed as well as an experienced Sherpa climbing guide who has a license from the government. Full insurance for the climbing Sherpa guide is compulsory to issue the permit as well as his license number,
We start the trek from the highest point in the morning along a stone edge to an ice sheet. Whilst this will be challenging in places, you will be left with a sense of achievement. This energizing experience ascending trip at Island Peak Climbing finishes with a brain catching grand mountain departure from Lukla back to Kathmandu. This is a beginners Climbing Expedition but does also have some challenges for those who are less experienced. Rest assured, we will be with you all the way to guide you.
One of our team members will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel in Kathmandu.
This day is for the arrangement day, such as checking equipment and documents for the climbing while introducing your guide/porter staff. As an option we can also offer some Kathmandu sightseeing.
We grab an early morning plane to Lukla, at 2804 meters, and touch down in Tenzing and Hillary Airport (named after Everest’s first summiteers) 30 minutes later, around 7 a.m. After landing, you can enjoy drinking tea in the village, buy last-minute trekking utensils and take photos, while our crew prepares our trekking equipment. At last, our trek begins! Descending toward the Dudh Kosi River, we follow the main trail and head toward our overnight stay at Phakding.
Today we will walk through the magnificent forest of rhododendron, ending your nature-filled journey at Namche Bazaar which takes about 7 hrs from Phakding. On the way we can experience the scenery of blue pine forests, firs, and junipers.
Enjoy the beautiful village of Namche along with the friendliness and hospitality of its local Sherpa people. We will visit the local museum which displays the area’s native flora and fauna as well as the history of the Mount Everest region.
Today we begin the trek with awe-inspiring, unforgettable views of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Cholatse, Kantaiga, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. This trek is quite an easy walk from Namche to Phunki, followed by a three-hour ascent towards Tengboche.
Today you will cross another exciting wire suspension bridge over the Imja Khola, and then ascend to Pangboche. Thousands of mani stones embellish the way — large boulders carved and painted with Buddhist mantras. The uphill trek continues to the quaint Sherpa village of Dingboche, offering spectacular views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and the steep ice summit of Ama Dablam. You will trek slowly today, easing safely into the thinning air.
Chhukung is a resting place before reaching the Island Peak base camp. We will trek for around 3-4 hours from Dingboche to Chhukung. Due to altitude we will trek slowly as the air get thinner.
The purpose of today is to acclimatize. Chhukung Ri is a rocky mountain and from the top you will have a parallel view of the Imja-Tse, Island Peak, Mount Ama Dablam, Makalu and Nuptse. Today will help you for the days ahead.
We head closer towards our destination today via a stream trail of Imja Glacier to the Island Peak base camp. We will have lunch at the base camp and the leaders will conduct a discussion about the climbing. This is necessary for preparation of your upcoming adventure.
Today is a pre-climbing day to ensure you are acquainted with the climbing gear. This day is dedicated to making the overall experience easier and more enjoyable. You will also be taught safety techniques. Be sure to get an early night ready for the midnight hike awaiting you.
Today we will be crossing the gully above the camp; the trail makes a climb for another hour to a narrow ridge, leading on to the glacier. Here it is time to rope-up and put on our crampons as the most interesting part of the climb begins with the glacier crossing. This is followed by the steep snow slope that leads onto the summit ridge. This ridge is wonderfully airy and on reaching the summit we have stunning close-up views of the south face of Lhotse looming over us whilst in the other direction, there are more dramatic mountain views. We descend along the same route, down to base camp.
After descending along the trail to Chukhung, we continue on to Dingboche for lunch. It is then another couple of hours to the lovely village of Pangboche.
Today the trek takes us along the river and hike up through birch and rhododendron forest to Tengboche. Kwangde, Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kantega and Thamserku are just a few of the Himalayan giants to be seen. From Tengboche we descend to the bridge over the Dudh Kosi at Phunki Tenga, where there are water driven prayer wheels, before making our way back to Namche.
Today is the final day of trekking following the Dudh Kosi back down to Lukla. This last evening in the mountains is the ideal opportunity for a farewell party with the Sherpa guides and porters, where we can sample some change, try Sherpa dancing and look back on a memorable trekking experience.
After breakfast, we will provide a transfer to the airport where you will fly to Kathmandu which takes 30 minutes.
Today is a rest and relaxation day. Be sure to take some time finishing any last minute gift shopping or sightseeing in Kathmandu before your departure flight tomorrow. We will have a farewell dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant with cultural performances.
Today is the end of your BIG Adventure of Island Peak Climbing with the Everest Base Camp Trekking tour and a representative will transfer you to the airport for your departing flight. We wish you a safe onward journey and hope to welcome you back to Nepal very soon.
