The trail travels through traditional Sherpa settlements like Ringmo and Junbesi, where you may see historic temples, get a taste of real mountain living, and become fully immersed in the rich Buddhist history of the area. After breakfast, you’ll start with a quick orientation before taking you on a tour of Kathmandu’s historical sights. In the morning, enjoy a leisurely walking tour in Swayambhunath (literally meaning self-incarnated), which is known as the Monkey Temple, as herds of monkeys reside there. Swayambhunath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and itself consists of various shrines dating back to the ancient period. Afterward, head towards another UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the city's historic center, Kathmandu Durbar Square. Explore its gorgeous palaces, elaborately carved temples, and courtyards while paying a visit to the home of the Kumari, Nepal's famed Living Goddess, whose centuries-old customs continue to play a significant role in the nation's cultural legacy.
