Pokhara is the second largest city in Nepal next to Kathmandu, but it provides visitors with a wildly different feeling – that of quite tranquility. Famous for its natural beauty, Pokhara is home to the serene Phewa Lake, as well as magnificent panoramas of the Annapurna range, and you can also find a number of temples and stupas in and around the area. Sit by the lake side for a snack or drink, or explore one of the area’s many natural wonders, including Begnas Lake, Rupa Lake, Devi’s Falls, or the Seti River gorge. Pokhara is a picturesque city in Nepal, known for its stunning lakes, views of the Annapurna mountain range, and vibrant atmosphere.
As the gateway to the Annapurna region, it boasts amazing views of the mountain range and is surrounded by lush green forests that lead to the foothills. At the heart of the city is Phewa Lake. Enjoy strolling along its shoreline that is dotted with picnic areas and delicious restaurants, or rent a small row boat to visit the Taal Barahi Temple sitting on its own small island.
The surrounding area offers great day hikes up to Shanti Stupa overlooking Phewa Lake, or Sarangkot where the paraglider can be seen soaring as they begin their initial descent. Within the city limits, the underground Devi’s waterfall is a beautiful temple, surrounded by ornately carved stairs. As the jumping off point for so many of the famous treks, Poonhill, Annapurna Circuit, Australian Base Camp, and Annapurna summit itself, the city is full of expedition teams and trekkers from all over the world. It’s an eclectic mix that can be felt and seen in the city’s variety of activities, restaurants and denizens. When you plan your trip, plan at least one to two days in addition to your trekking time to fully appreciate the vibrant beauty and tranquility of Pokhara.
