Today you can indulge in the mystical warmth of this city. A tour around the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the museum of medieval art and architecture with many examples of sculpture, woodcarving and colossal pagoda temples consecrated to different Gods and Goddesses are in for you today. The main attractions of the Bhaktapur Durbar Square are the 55 Window Palace, the Lions gate, the small Pashupatinath temple, Vastala temple, Nyatapola temple and the Bhairavanath temple.

The city where Nepali medieval times are preserved. It emanates the vibes of an ancient city which is why it is listed as one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites. It pre-sents a genuine living history, with its pagoda style wooden temples, stone water spouts, brick lined narrow alleyways, intricately carved traditional wooden Nepalese houses, and magnificent mountain ranges.

After you explore Bhaktapur, you reach Nagarkot, a hill station situated at the north of Bhaktapur and famously known as being the key viewpoint to enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunset with the chain of the mighty Himalayas in the distance. Just above Bhaktapur lies the hill with the Bageshwari Saraswatisthan (Manjushree cave) where Milarepa, a Tibetan tantric Yogi used to meditate.

The hilltop Nagarkot, at the eastern periphery of the Kathmandu valley, is the second highest peak in the valley at more than 2000 meters above sea level. Reaching the top after an hour long exciting and winding drive you will see the surreal view the Mount Everest among the Himalayas. The next stop, Patan Durbar Square, is one of the examples of the ancient Newari architecture of the Malla reign. The major highlight today is the Krishna Temple with 21 pinna-cles built in Shikhar style. Once called the city of Bihars and Bahils, Mahaboudha is the terra-cotta masterpiece of 14th century. Buddhist must-see places include Hiranya Verna Mahabihar, Rudra Verna Mahabihar and Ashokan stupas. The Chowks (courtyards) Mul chowk, Sundari chowk, Mani chowk and Narayan Chowk are other interesting sites nearby. Here, you can stroll around the old Newari residential houses and explore the beautiful golden temples along with Kumbheshwor, which is oldest temple in the valley.

Afterwards you visit Swayambhunath (literally meaning self-incarnated) which is known as the Monkey temple, as herds of monkeys are residential there. Swayambhunath is a UNESCO world heritage site and itself consists of various shrines dating back to the ancient period. You can see the valley from the top of the hillock where the temple is situated. However, be cautious near the monkeys and do not carry food items.

Today’s first stop is Budhanilkantha, a stone sculpture of Sleeping Vishnu, located at the northern part of central Kathmandu. It is also the gateway to the nearest and possibly the best short-hike near Kathmandu, the Shivapuri National Reserve. Hiking through the reserve to Sundarijaal is filled with peace and serenity. Even though being so close to the bustling city you will feel so far away from the noise and hustle.

The next stop Boudhnath, is the world’s largest stupa with 36 meters. It lies about 6 km east of the center of Kathmandu. The design of the stupa is really fascinating, with hundreds of prayer wheels and 108 small images of Buddha all around. As you enter from the hustling main street, you will feel the peace and spiritual energy of this place. It is surrounded by numerous rooftop restaurants so enjoy your lunch while having an astonishing view over the stupa.
